Frequently asked questions

  1. What should I do first? The first thing is your removal date. It's not always necessary to have the removal date. However, it would be good to have an idea of when you are looking to move, at this point you can fill out the enquiry page and send it to Enfield Removal Services with some photo attachments to enable us to give an estimate of cost, we will advise you if it's necessary to view the items in person to give you a precise quote.

  2. Are we insured for any breakages? Yes, you are insured up to £10,000 per lorry, even if you pack for yourself and choose not to use our packing materials. The important thing is that the boxes are sturdy and not to be over-packed with items protruding and clearly labelled. For reference, look at the guide lines (packing services full /part-packing /unpacking).

  3. Can we leave items in our chests of drawers? Clothes are the only items you can leave in your drawers, the condition is that the drawers can be removed from the frame.

  4. What happens to our hanging clothes? We have a fixed rail in the lorry that we can put your hanging clothes on. This only works well if you have fitted wardrobes at your old address and in the home you're moving into. If the wardrobes need to be disassembled and reassembled then it's wise to use the wardrobe boxes we provide at a charge of £5 each, size, 60” high x 20” width x 20”depth. We usually take the wardrobe boxes back at the end of the removal once all items are unloaded into your new home, unless agreed otherwise.

  5. Is it possible we can leave our double / single frame beds together? It is very rare that even a single bed frame will pass through a door, it's wise to have furniture as flat as possible while loading the lorry. In this case, we offer to disassemble and reassemble beds at the new property.

  6. Do you put protection on my light coloured carpet? Yes, we put sheets or blankets down to cover the floor, when and where appropriate.

  7. Do you supply a mattress cover for my mattress? Yes, we have protection for your mattress. If you would like a mattress cover it's an additional cost of £10 up to a size of king size. If you have a super king size, we also have a very strong heavy duty cover that is not chargeable but has been used previously, otherwise, we can split the cost of 2 king size mattress covers and charge £15 at cost price to us.

  8. What happens if there is a delay with the keys to gain access to my new home? If your full job has been quoted (not by the hour), there is no additional charge up for up to a 2 hour delay. This time starts from the when we park at your new address and are ready to unload.  After the 2 hours, we will charge £12.50 per half hour for each person on your removal job. If the delay is approaching 4pm, it is recommended to start looking at a storage facilities as a backup.  It is rare for the removal not to complete where the keys are handed over on the day of removal. If the job does not complete on the day of removal, you cannot gain access to your new home and we have everything booked in our removal diary for the following day; we would have to unload our lorry and put all items in storage. This will incur an additional charge of 80 % of the removal value. You would also need to pay for the storage costs. If this happens you can contact your solicitor to get advice on how to claim for your additional costs from the third party at fault.

  9. When you arrive at the new property - Depending, on the time of the year you may want to get the heating on immediately. So it's very important to know exactly how to use the boiler, even if the person you bought your home from does not have the instructions you may be able to search for the make and model on the internet and print the instructions off.

  10. How is the lorry loaded/ what is the order for an average home? For example the first items to be loaded, in priority order to the last items, are as follows: pictures/ mirrors/ dining/kitchen chairs/ TV/TVs / fragile small tables / soft items. These items are often put in the Luton van. Next items: settees armchairs /sideboard, TV unit / coffee table / then chest of drawers /some boxes,  approximately 50/70 small / med plus large boxes, then double beds/single beds / dining table. Washing machine /tumble dryer / dishwasher/ cooker/ fridge freezer, it's wise to have a cooler box/boxes for your fridge items / garden contents. Note: Usually we try to unload your fridge freezer as one of the first items. It's advised that even when moving it, it's kept in an upright position. You should wait at least 3/4 hrs before switching the fridge freezer on again.

  11. My cable guy is going to turn up as soon as we get the keys for the new home at 2pm, would it be possible to gain access to our TV/TVs? Yes, it's possible. Please let us know on the day of your removal as we will load the TV/TVs as near to the last item to be loaded as possible, to enable us to unload it as one of the first items brought off the lorry. We advise taking an essential box with the TV/TVs controls and any related TV cables, then put them in your car if possible.
